As Managing Editor of Smart Art Press from 1995 to 2000, Martin shepherded more than fifty books to publication and handled all distribution and public relations for the press. Collaborating as editor on books by creators such as Jeffrey Vallance, Karen Finley, Rachel Rosenthal, and Jim Shaw, among others, Martin also worked with critics such as the New Yorker’s Peter Schjeldahl and art historians such as David Kunzle, Carlo McCormick, Connie Glenn, and Wayne Baerwaldt to produce books on art, social history, and contemporary culture. She also was co-curator and editor of the exhibition catalogue for Forming: The Early Days of L.A. Punk, published the first catalogue of Marcel Dzama’s work, and created an evening of performances for Decade of Protest: Political Posters from the United States, Viet Nam, and Cuba, 1965–1975.
